Adventure Date: 21/11/2014
There is a caravan entering into the city of Beechtown. The caravan is from the Elven city of Balmorraforllols (Common name is old coin)
Dorian is a previous elven cleric of Pelor who has been corrupted by a shadow. Dorian is a local of Beechtown he spends his time begging in the streets. Dorian moves around frequently when the gangs approach him for protection money so that they are not in any danger from him.
Elves come from the South East across the shallow sea, there is a strait that separates the elves from the dark elves. Old coin is an important city state for trade.
Beechtown is currently under rule from a merchant council (merchant guild). Jora Fast (bishop) is the head priest of Baldoon he is member of the ruling merchant council.
Dark elves have an island nation Balmorraforllols is a way point between the dark elves and the rest of the worlds. Dark elves do not take power from nature they worship minor divine entities.
Old Coin elves speak common but they use many borrowed words. They basically speak corporate language in elven.
The caravan from Old Coin is entering the city tomorrow. Aoife over hears Bishop Fast talking about the caravan entering the city as it is important for trade and diplomatic reasons. Caravans from old coin are few and far between. Side note: elves are normally very protectionist, old coin is odd because it trades with the outside world.
Aoife goes to her contact Noni for inside information. He is kind of scared of her so he gives her information. Noni says: ‘they are coming through the gate near bright terrace and they will be staying there’. Note: that is the upper middle class section of the city. Aoife blesses Noni and passes him a coin telling him ‘May you invest your wealth wisely’. He says ‘you don’t need to do that, we are friends’. Aoife ignores him and leaves to research about leylines before spending they day at the Chaffe gate tomorrow.
Dorian decides to go to the temple of Raina to clean himself up before the caravan arrives. Geralt (a Templar of Raina) wakes Dorian up with a meal and talks to him about what brought him to the temple. Geralt offers Dorian future lodging at the temple of Raina. Geralt tells Dorian “I have seen that the caravan has need of my assistant”. They head to the chaffe gate to see the caravan.
Aoife spots a criminal leader leaning out of the window of a building 2 streets over from where the caravan will enter. The criminal leader is watching the various merchants and traders in the area. Raymon Mountainview is the criminal he has old dwarf money in the family, does legitimate and less legitimate business. NOTE: Tomin Mountainview is on the council, he is just a face though. Aoife also notices Dorian and the Kobold Geralt
After an hour the caravan comes into view as it approaches the city. Dorian approaches the caravan and offers a traditional elvish greeting. Aoife follows him closely as he has an odd aura/feeling about him. She notices that the elves have a similar odd felling about them similar to Dorian but not as strong. The elves from Old Coin have slightly sunken and tired eyes. Dorian continues talking to the elvish page. The elves are surprised to see someone outside of their city because clearly Old Coin is the best place in world.
Dorian tells the page ‘I have been staying in beechtown trying to solve some personal issues’. The page gives Dorian a weird look as he did not introduce himself with a title (NOTE: titles are extremely important to elves). The page has the title ‘Secondary Logistics Officer’. The houses on Moore street will house the elves during their stay at Beechtown. They will set up shops and trade in this area. The elves are renowned for their export of culture/art/music etc. When the last caravan pulled in Ramon disappeared from his window.
Aoife brings Dorian one of her special sandwiches and asks him about the elves that have entered town. Aoife asks Dorian about the illegal items that might be traded by the elves this includes ‘narcotics and dark magic’.
Geralt says that he had a vision from Raina saying that something is going to happen at midnight and that the elves might need our help. Aoife presses Dorian about his weird aura. Dorian tells Aoife about his encounter with the shadow and how this severed his connection with Pelor. As they all talk the party hears a scream in the distance.
Aoife rushes off in the direction of the scream and talks to one of the city guards at the cottage the scream came from. Geralt over hears one of the elves speaking about another elf who may not survive called Lira. Geralt sneaks into the cottage and approaches one of the elves saying ‘I am a cleric and I am here to help Lira’. One the elves say ‘thank god! None of our clerics have been able to do anything. You should come and help her now’. Geralt goes into the room with the elf and says ‘I need some space’.
Vermont is the head inspector from the watch. He Is an overly masculine detective who thinks he is really good. Aoife does not like him. He shows up at the cottage as Aoife is trying to get inside to look at the body. There is a window open in the room the girl died in.
The Samsons own the cottage that the girl died in and are staying in a nearby tavern (nock and needle). Aoife wakes up early gets some special sandwiches and heads to the temple of Raina. Geralt had another vision of elves beheaded underground.
Dorian goes to the meeting with the head cleric of Pelor with the elves. He says that he was at the death of the young elf girl yesterday and asks about what happened to her spirit. Dorian then explains about his encounter with the shadow plane and how he cannot connect with Pelor anymore.
Bishop Dartmouth: Aoife talks to him about souls moving between this plane and the next he suggests that maybe a magic item could be involved in preventing the soul moving to the next world.
All the victims were not extremely important people, they were related to people who were important. i.e. mother in law/ son in law/ son/ daughter/ cousin. One of the nobles who is a head of guard, brother of one of the victims seems like he is more open to discussion.
Dorian and Aoife approach the head of guard and talk to him about the recent events. They find that his brother was one of the victims and now his ghost will not stop haunting his father. The ghost constantly asks for revenge. In general the ghosts huant those who are in the position of power that could give them revenge. The head guard grants the party access to the body of the latest victim and the party decided to stake out the body to see if the murderer returns,
Geralt decides to have a nap while on stake out duty and has another vision. He sees a tall blonde man who is staying in an inn bed and he says “Who are you? Get away from me! Arrrgh!” as a shadowy figure attacks him in the night. Geralt awakes and tell Aoife and Dorian of his vision. Dorian continues the watch over the elven girls body while Aoife and Geralt try to find the tall blonde human that Geralt saw in his vision.
They start their search by going to the inn that the Samsons are staying at while the elves occupy their house. At the Nock and Needle in they run into the man from Geralts vision: Deriel Smith, he is a guild trade negotiator he works with the local smithing industry. He is a local but lives on Moore street and is therefore displaced to an in as the elves are currently using his residence. He is negotiating with a family about decorative weapon parts. The family he is negotiating with is called House Tonkin.
Dorian decides to continue the watch over the elven girls body while Geralt and Aoife decide to watch over Deriel. Geralt asks the inn keeper which room Deriel is staying in before sneaking into the room and hiding under the bed to await the assailant.
TODO: describe the assailant in the night and the chase
TODO: describe entry into the sewers near the perfumers, using the same hiding hole as the bodies
TODO: describe the chase down the tunnel in the sewers. Describe the fight in the sewers
The party takes the prisoner to the temple of Raina to be held until the authorities can be notified of his capture. As Geralt and Dorian tend to the prisoner Aoife prays to Baldoon and asks for guidance to destroy the evil knife that the orc used:
“Baldoon, I have defeated your foe in combat and brought him to justice to answer from his crimes. From this foe I took a weapon of immense evil. How might I release the tormented souls and cleanse this weapon of its foul magic. If I am able to return these souls to peace it will bring back prosperity to the trade between my people and the elves.”
The dagger needs to be destroyed by a ritual at a place of power, the easiest way to destroy it would be to take it to the place where it was forger. Aoife leaves a note for Archbishop Fast describing the events of the night and that they have the murderer in custody. Aoife then returns to the temples of Raina and checks to make sure the prisoner is not suffering from any wounds caused in the fight.
Most victims were elves so the orc is trialed under their laws. The party suspects that the trial will just be a ‘show’ so Dorian decides to represent the orc. The orc, Krogan is found guilty and is beheaded for his crimes.
